THE CERTIFICATION OF THREE REFERENCE MATERIALS FOR THROMBOPLASTINS
The present report of three Reference Materials thromboplastin, i.e., human, bovine, and rabbit, is the account of a group of European experts on the calibration of thromboplastins representing the three main types of these reagents in oral anticoagulant control. Calibration was carried out according to the guidelines of the International Committee on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and the International Committee for Standardization in Haematology. The primary World Health Organization Reference Preparation, thromboplastin human, combined, preparation 67/40, was used as the basic reference. It appeared that the relationship between the three thromboplastins and Reference Preparation 67/40 was best defined by means of linear relations of the logarithms of the coagulation times of normal and patient plasmas. These calibration lines are certified and practical guidelines are given for the use of RMs.
