THE CERTIFICATION OF THE CONTENTS (MASS FRACTIONS) OF CADMIUM, COPPER, IRON, MERCURY AND LEAD IN ONE NATURAL SAMPLE OF SKIM MILK POWDER (BCR NO 63) AND IN TWO SPIKED SAMPLES OF SKIM MILK POWDER (BCR NOS 150 AND 151)
The report describes the preparation of three reference materials: + a skim milk powder with natural levels of trace elements (CRM 63); + two powders of skim milk (CRM 150 and 151) enriched in heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg and Pb). The highest level is close to the limit for each element beyond which the milk would not be allowed cn the market. The natural milk powder (CRM 63) is also certified for the major elements (report EUR 9138). The analyses were carried out by several methods selected for producing the most accurate results and were performed by several laboratories experienced in dairy analysis and in trace element analysis. The results are reproduced in detail and discussed. The report also explains the methodology followed to assign the uncertainties to the respective values.
