Abstract

The progress in advanced technologies is directly related to the development in materials sciences and technologies. The purpose of this article is to take the aircraft industry as an example of an advanced technology and, using the gas turbine engine as a particular example, to indicate how its continued demand for new materials is likely to be met, and how the progress made can be used to advantage in other fields, both established conventional industries and possible new industries.
