AN INTEGRAL EXPERIMENT RELATING TO CALIBRATION AND INTERPRETATION OF PLUTONIUM SOLID WASTE MEASUREMENTS AT DOUNREAY NUCLEAR POWER DEVELOPMENT ESTABLISHMENT
This is Part 2 of a collaborative report in three parts on An Integral Experiment Relating to Calibration and Interpretation of Plutonium Solid Waste Measurements at Dounreay Nuclear Power Development Establishment. The published Part 1 report (EUR 8020 EN, 1983) deals with the general description of the monitoring system, characterization of the Pu contaminated materials (PCM) streams, theoretical models of the monitors and the calibration methods. This report gives a detail description and a manual of software for the interpretation of PCM measurements in terms of PU content of the examined PCM items. The described computer programmes are dedicated to the specific instruments and PCM items of the Dounreay monitoring system. These monitors are identified by the following codes and related waste streams: NDA 2 + Segmented gamma scanning on low beta,gamma-PCM in La Calene containers NDA 4 + Passive neutron counting withthe VDC instrument on low beta,gamma-PCM in 210 1 drums NDA 6 + Passive neutron counting with the VDC instrument on high beta,gamma-PCM in 210 1 drums NDA 5 + Interrogation by 14 MeV neutrons and delayed neutron counting on high beta,gamma-PCM in 20 cm phi baskets The brief description of the applied interpretational model is followed by a detailed outline of the computer software, for each of the monitors under considerations. The programmes are written in FORTRAN IV. Detailed data flow diagrams and programme listings are given. Some test cases are included.
