Abstract

The wavelength and temperature dependence of the fluorescence kinetics and the time gated fluorescence spectra of a chlorophyll - a-protein complex isolated from barley and containing +- 40 antenna chlorophylls and one photosystem I reaction center provide evidence for Vorster-type energy transfer between different antenna chlorophyll forms which are non-randomly organized around the reaction center. The experimental data can be explained by assuming the presence of three relatively discrete antenna forms of which F695 is closest to the reaction center whereas the two other forms, F680 and F720, are situated at larger distance.
