RESULTS OF THE HEAT PUMP R&D PROGRAMME OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES
In the framework of its Energy R and D programmes the Commission of the European Communities is carrying out R and D on heat pumps. In the second CEC R and D Programme (1979 - 1983) 28 heat pump projects have been selected. The total cost of this heat pump programme was 8 Mio ECU(1 ECU = 0,6 2) of which the Commission paid 50 %. A part of the programme was devoted to the improvement of compressor heat pumps and research was carried out on fluid mixtures, influence of compressor lubrication oil on the heat pump performance, oil free compressor and heat sources. Work on absorption heat pumps was directed towards the development of a cheap and reliable fluid circulation pump and of new working fluid pairs. Research on industrial heat pumps, with drying applications in the paper, milk and food industry, has been considerably expanded. Also the possibilities for heat pump operation above 120 degrees C are being explored. (e.g. Brayton cycle heat pump, heat transformer).
