Abstract

The design of the toroidal field (TF) coil supporting structure for INTOR-NET Phase 2A (European Configuration) is described. A structural analysis was carried out considering only the cyclic out-of-plane loads due to the poloidal field, acting on the coils, since this contributes the most critical loading condition. The calculation model was made with the aid of the GIFTS system. The results show that the maximum equivalent stress is below the stress limit proposed by the INTOR specifications for stainless steel (AISI 316 type) at cryogenic temperature and under cyclic loading.
