Abstract

Many approaches have been proposed in the recent past for computer aided synthesis of fault trees. All these methods do not account satisfactorily for the physics of the process, neither are they able to take into account time aspects. This paper presents an application of the DYLAM methodology to the safety analysis of a typical physico-chemical process. The application example has been already studied by Lapp and Powers (Nitric acid controlled cooler). The results show the advantages of the proposed methodology in dealing with dynamic problems.
