Abstract

An analysis of runaway effects perpendicular to the confining magnetic field, induced by electron - cyclotron waves in the ordinary mode polarization interacting with the plasma electrons is made. For simplicity, the plasma, the magnetic field and the wave excitation are considered to be homogeneous. This model is expected to lead to an overestimate of the efficiency of runaway electron generation, but indicates that such effects may be important in many practical cases.
