Abstract

The aim of this project was to study the replacement of classic heating processes by microwave heating. A knowledge of the microwave and thermal parameters of the materials to be treated was needed for computer simulation and optimization of the process. Two methods have been developed to measure the dielectric properties of potential products. A computer program was implemented to simulate microwave absorption in multilayered media and to predict the resulting temperature profiles. Automatic and contactless temperature measurement techniques have been studied to allow a higher degree of process control. Three different microwave systems were constructed and fully tested. Finally, attention is paid to the economic aspects.
