Abstract

The research centre of the EEC at Ispra (Italy) has numerous PDP11s and some of them are interconnected in a DECNET network. Moreover the computer centre has implemented INET, a private X25 network linking 7 SOLAR 16-65's which are 16 bit French minicomputers. INET gives access to the Amdahl 470/V8 mainframe and to public networks through a gateway to EURONET. During 84, HP 1000 computers will be connected to INET. The PDP 11/44 which is under our responsibility is connected to the DECNET (RSX DECNET 3.1) and to INET (RSX PSI M2.0). The facilities of both networks are regularly used. Moreover we have extended the remote terminal facility of DECNET to any subscriber of a reachable X25 network. A gateway function has been implemented in order to exchange files (variable length records of ASCII characters) between DECNET nodes and X25 nodes (SOLAR 16 running MPES, Amdahl 470 running MVS). Extensions to other computer types and enhancement are under development. An electronic mail service has been implemented on INET and its extension to DECNET is under study.
