TRENDS IN EVOLUTION OF NUTRIENT AND TRACE ELEMENTS IN SEDIMENTS, FROM 13 ITALIAN SUBALPINE LAKES, OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS
Pollution problems of lacustrine environments in Italy have been mainly based upon the study of chemical and biological characteristics of lake water. This work is the first attempt to point out a comparative picture of recent sedimentation (and its evolution over the last 30 years) and to use sediments as a diagnostic tool for aquatic pollution control purposes. The sedimentological approach) has been tested on 13 lakes of the subalpine Italian district. They represent a wide range in terms of trophic, climatic, geological and pedological characteristics.
