Riassunto

Among the scientific aspects of radioactive waste disposal a great effort is being devoted to the understanding of the basic mechanisms which control the leaching of glasses. The physico-chemical composition of the surface and of the subsurface layers is very important in defining such mechanisms. A list of techniques (such as nuclear techniques, IRR, SEM, EDAX, XPS) together with the principal information given by each of these will be presented. An application of different techniques for the study of iron, silicon and hydrogen content in samples leached in oxic and anoxic conditions will be illustrated.
