Abstract

The High Flux Materials Testing Reactor at JRC, Petten, has 29 irradiation positions, including 17 in-core positions, available for experiments to be carried out. Each experiment is continuously monitored using several thermocouples and additional instrumentation at various levels within the experimental capsule. The HFR Data Acquisition System (DACOS) is such that, for all experimental positions, a total of up to 1120 channels (via 8 dataloggers) are available for continuous assessment analyses to be made, e.g. temperature and power histories. The hardware and software provided by the present DACOS system are discussed here. The hardware includes 2 PDP 11/40's and a VAX 11/750 minicomputers, plus numerous peripherals. The software development has been primarily written to allow for immediate access of data and to provide graphical presentation of the results for the monthly cycle reports. Other options are also available to obtain plots of data, ranging from a few hours to 12 months. The paper presented here also discusses the history of the DACOS system, its present set-up and capabilities, plus the future development of the system over both the short and long term.
