Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The Commission of the European Communities has allocated high priority to the development of national venture capital markets and their cooperation within the European Community. Hence the support given by the Commission to the setting-up of a European Venture Capital Association (EVCA) and the holding of this fifth EC symposium on the financing of innovation together with the EVCA. The papers in this book from the symposium concentrate on three problem sectors in which joint efforts are required for the development of a European venture capital market: the difficulties related to transborder investment within the European Community; how to finance information technology based enterprises; selecting and training new entrepreneurs and new venture capitalists. They examine the role of private capital in investment in Europe and how it can be encouraged through the use of various incentives. The overall aim is to promote an exchange of views and experience between investors, venture capitalists entrepreneurs and government officials.
