SOLAR HEATING. PERFORMANCE AND COST IMPROVEMENTS BY DESIGN
This document illustrates how solar heating systems can be designed to achieve maximum benefits for a given cost, and how to avoid problems encounterd with earlier systems. The document presents seven exemplary solar heating systems. Each design was developed by a multidisciplinary team covering the fields of solar heating system design, architecture, integration of solar components, manufacturing, assembly of solar heating systems and simulation modelling. The designs are described in detail, including their predicted performance and estimated costs. The document also illustrates the process by which the designs were improved to maximise energy per unit cost. Additionally, all the designs were reviewed on a common basis by experts in specific areas including architecture, engineering and performance simulations.
