OBSERVATIONS OF STRAIN AND MICROSTRUCTURAL INSTABILITY DURING DEFORMATION OF THE SUPERPLASTIC ALUMINIUM - CALCIUM EUTECTIC ALLOY IN THE AS-EXTRUDED STATE
The present work is aiming at investigating strain hardening and strain softening effects in the hot extruded Al-Ca eutectic alloy at a temperature (773 K) and over a wide range of strain rates between 10-5 to 10 sec-1. growth whereas the latter can be explaining by the breaking up of the ex-extruded microstructure into approximately equiaxed grains. A similarity exists between the strain and microstructural instability observed in the present alloy and that previously described by other authors in alpha - beta brass, in Pb - Sb eutectic and on microduplex steels.
