THE MELTING OF RADIOACTIVE METALLIC PARTS
The melting of radioactive metallic parts coming from decommissioning or renewal of nuclear installations gives the opportunity of non injurious recycling within the nuclear scenario as well as of a high volume reduction for storage. The main aims of this research and development project, sponsored by EC and BMFT were: + development of a suitable technique + assessment of the radioactivity distribution (radioactivity balance) + behaviours of the radiactivity during several melts on the various parts of the melt installation + evaluation of the amount of secondary waste produced.
