Abstract

This paper presents a summary of preliminary considerations on the particle balance and recycling phenomena of plasmas obtained during the first months of operations of JET. Global particle confinement times and global recycling coefficients have been inferred by analyzing the experimental data in terms of the global particle balance equation. The general behaviour of these two global quantities is described. Clearly, this approach does not elucidate the physical microscopic processes underlying the particle transport and the fundamental plasma - wall interactions.
