  • SURVEY OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE MATERIALS R&D. SECTION 3 - CERAMIC COMPOSITES FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS

Abstract

The aim of the survey is to establish the state of the art in the development of ceramic matrix composites and to identify the future research and development requirements necessary to bring these materials into operational service in high temperature technologies. The title Ceramics matrix composites is understood to include materials where a ceramic matrix contains secondary phases to enhance mechanical properties, particularly toughness and strength and therefore includes all materials which are modified by e.g. transformation toughening, fibre reinforcement and the inclusion of other ceramic or metallic phases.
