THE ACTIVATION OF THE BIOLOGICAL SHIELD IN THE ABANDONED NUCLEAR POWER STATION AT LINGEN
When planning the closing down of a nuclear power station, information on the depth of activation of the biological shield is, among other things, of significance. With the aid of an extensive programme of sample and measurement taking at the abandoned Lingen nuclear power station, in support of the calculation by a computer programme of the activation, those prerequisites have been ascertained, which will help to avoid an expensive programme of measurements in later investigations. The results of the measurements and calculations correspond well. It is shown that a calculation of the activity in the core medium level suffices to identify the area of merely slight activation of the concrete. In the case of Lingen this area is to be found still before the outer concrete (first concrete).
