Abstract

This volume contains the proceedings of the 1982 workshop at Ispra, 9-11 February, on solar simulators. With solar simulators likely to become a powerful testing tool, one of the aims of this meeting was to provide the latest information on the various technologies with their respective merits and problems. Cost factors were discussed, taking into account the inherent advantages which solar simulators have over outdoor testing such as time saving, stability of test conditions, reproducibility and accuracy. The problem of finding a correlation between indoor and outdoor measurements was also considered and a number of approaches identified. The proceedings were organized in three sessions: the first focused on "lamps and lamp array design" and "simulation chamber design"; the second was concerned with: "Instrumentation and measurement methods" and "test procedures and accuracy"; the third discussed: "standards" and commercial aspects of testing. An appendix provides specifications of solar simulators and summary data sheets.
