SOLAR ENERGY, RENEWABLE ENERGIES, AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Some general information is given on renewable energies, and their perspectives. For three solar energy technologies, namely thermal collectors, photovoltaic installations, solar tower plants, the possible interactions with the environment are examined. Pollution and risk are considered for the various phases: preparation and transformation of raw materials, fabrication of components, operation of the plant, decommissioning. The advantages of avoiding adverse environmental impacts associated with non solar energy alternatives are mentioned.
