Abstract

By means of a post-acceleration pulse compression magnet electron pulses of 100A and 600 picosecond width (FWHM) are now available at the 150 MeV Geel Electron Linear Accelerator (GELINA). Besides a description of the working principle of the pulse compression system the paper gives an updated account of further improvements of the pulse characteristics. Also described are the ameliorated diagnostics and monitoring of the compressed pulses. The widths of the neutron bursts generated by the compressed electron pulses are measured and a comparison with other pulsed neutron sources is made.
