Abstract

Isotopic Reference Materials need to be isotopically homogeneous. Hence no isotopic contamination may occur during any of the preparation and measurement steps and this has to be shown. The paper describes the use of UF-6 mass spectrometry to perform verification of isotopic homogeneity of the U materials used to fabricate the RM's for gamma spectrometry. It describes how the chemical conversion process was carried out and what precautions were taken against isotopic contamination. It also describes the actual measurements and gives results for this verification of isotopic homogeneity.
