EXPERT SYSTEMS - WHAT, WHAT FOR, FOR WHOM?
This paper describes an expert (advisory) system intended to support decisions about hazardous substance management by comprehensively treating the interactions and trade-offs amongst the major subsystems involved, i.e., production, both routine and accidental environmental releases, product use, transportation, waste treatment and disposal. Some potential uses of such systems are proposed and some potential users identified and their probable requirements for the user interface. The implication of systems use are discussed and its possible limitation summarized. The paper will then introduce the topics to be considered by the Task Force Meeting.
