WARBLE FLY CONTROL IN EUROPE
This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium in the EC programme of Coordination Research on Animal Pathology, held at Brussels, 16-17 September 1982. The papers presented related to three topics: introduction to hypodermosis control; cattle grub control; and improvements of control measures. In all the objectives of the symposium were to compare the different European programmes in operation, to identify their common shortcomings and then to define the research priorities which could lead to improvement of control measures. In concluding the discussions of the papers presented, a number of research priorities were defined: collection and collation of data on economic losses due to hypodermosis; investigation of more precise tools for estimation and control of low level populations when an advanced stage of eradication of hypodermosis has been attained; fundamental biological studies on the behaviour of Hypoderma populations development and movement of the fly; investigation of available control methods in non-bovine hosts; factors involved in the persistence of residual foci of infestation; pathophysiology involved in the treatment of hypodermosis.
