Abstract

This report is a summary of individual reports compiled by experts representing the six European standards laboratories which participated in an exercise involving the intercomparison of large volumetric measures (1000 l and above) used as standards of liquid volume. The transfer standard used consisted of a pair of similar positive displacement meters. The transfer package was calibrated in turn by laboratories in U.K., Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and France. Additional tests were carried out from which correction factors were estimated. The results of the exercise showed that in general good agreement (within about +-0.05 per cent) existed. The sensitivity of the intercomparison technique was considerable. The report contains a brief description of each of the facilities used and presents a summary of the test data provided in each of the individual reports. The results are first discussed individually and are then compared with each other in terms of the uncertainty bands stated by each laboratory. The report ends with suggestions for ways in which the agreement between laboratories can be improved even further as well as recommendations for future exercises of this kind.
