Abstract

Many irradiation experiments on a variety of materials are carried out in the HFR at the Petten Establishment of the JRC. It is preferable that the majority of these experiments are executed in standardized reloadable devices to ensure that experiments are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Various piecemeal improvements over recent years have resulted in the generation of a number of similar, but different, devices for different experiments. The system has now been reviewed, and a large number of operating requirements are incorporated into three basic devices. This reduction and simplification of the range results from the development of new devices with more universal features which can satisfy a wide range of experimental requirements. This in turn effects large scale economies.
