THE CALCULATION OF DOSE FROM EXTERNAL PHOTON EXPOSURES USING REFERENCE HUMAN PHANTOMS AND MONTE CARLO METHODS - PART 2
This report gives tables of conversion coefficients for the calculation of organ doses and the Effective Dose Equivalent H-E (ICRP 26). Also presented are the organ doses and the sex specific risk weighted dose equivalents (H-E-male, H-E-female) for the male and female. The conversion coefficients are given per unit air kerma, unit fluence and unit exposure in free air for those organs and tissues needed for the determination of the Effective Dose Equivalent. The coefficients were calculated using the GSF male and female mathematical phantoms (ADAM and EVA) and a Monte Carlo programme, which determines the mean organ doses from the energy deposited in each organ. The whole body exposure geometries studied were anterior posterior, posterior - anterior, left lateral, full 360 degrees R-o rotation and full spatial isotropic irradiation. The tables and figures are valid only for the reference phantoms, the irradiation geometries and monoenergetic energies studied, but conversion coefficients for photon spectra can be evaluated by a spectral weighting technique and interpolation is valid for intermediate energies. Also point source whole body irradiation has been studied, to enable estimates to be made of organ doses and the H-E by converting the parallel beam data.
