ANALYSIS OF THE DIFFERENT PRACTICES OF QUALITY CONTROL AND MAINTENANCE USED IN EEC MEMBER STATES FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF PACKAGING FOR TRANSPORT OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS
This paper surveys the use of quality control in assuming the safety of packaging intended for transport of radioactive materials in four EEC countries: France, Italy, West Germany and the UK: Each country's practice is considered under the following headings: + A schedule of the most frequently consulted reference documents and a resume of national regulations on quality control. + The sharing of responsibility on a national scale, and between public and private bodies. + Examination of the application of quality control to shielded containers intended for the transport of nuclear fuels; before the design's acceptance, during production, and during use. A preparatory programme had been established and circulated as a preliminary to the competent authorities as well as to various organizations with an interest in the transport of radioactive materials. Negotiations with the various authorities made it possible to collect information and documents and to establish a schedule showing the current situation in all four countries.
