Abstract

The main objective of spectroscopic diagnostic on the Eta-Beta II plasma is the study of impurities, which can be important in the plasma energy balance and in determining the ion effective charge. Furthermore from the ratio of selected line intensities it is possible to evaluate the electron temperature, and from Doppler broadening measurements the ion temperature can be determined; the density of neutral deuterium atoms (deuterium is the filling gas) can be deduced from calibrated measurements of the intensity of deuterium lines, and from line intensity ratio it may be possible to evaluate the electron density.
