ETUDE DU TRAITEMENT DU LAITIER D'ACIERIE A L'OXYGENE EN VUE DE SON UTILISATION EN CIMENTERIE
Steelmaking slags containing more than 10% alumina were obtained by a mixed technique combining the addition of CAMFLUX in the converter and the treatment of the liquid slag in the slag pot by oxygen injection, and the addition of bauxite and aluminium scrap. The resulting product possesses some hydraulic properties. When it is mixed with Portland cement, it behaves like the best blast furnace slag presently used as additive in Portland cement. The production costs of alumina enriched slag is evaluated at 110 Ff/ton for an annual production of 175,000 tons. It permits an energy economy of 3,000 MJ if it is used as an additive for Portland cement. This, however, is not economically profitable. For the economical production of this cinder it is necessary to: + improve hydraulic properties and + decrease manufacturing costs. This entails the construction of a semi-industrial installation for the treatment of slags. Moreover, the present economic situation (decreasing cement production) and technical evolution (refining with a small amount of slag) considerably lessens the interest of the process.
