STUDIO RELATIVO ALLE TECNOLOGIE PULITE NELL'INDUSTRIA DELLE PELLI E DEL CUOIO
The protection of the environment has imposed significant extra costs on the tanning industry using traditional effluent treatment processes. It has been estimated that in this sector the cost of treating these effluents is, in the EEC, about 5% of the production costs. The early chapters of this study show, by analysing the origin of these effluents, that these environmental problems are just one result of the use of inefficient production methods. The dispersed nature of the tanning industry mitigates against the best use of traditional anti-pollution techniques. The new technologies were studied to find an innovative solution to these problems. It gives techniques which allow utilising unused parts of the hide (chromed and non chromed waste), and the process effluent thereby allowing a better use to be made of the material products of the tanneries through the modification of the recycling procedures. Using quantitative diagrams the study shows the characteristics of these "clean technologies" identified and presents an analysis of their potential use. Equally, in an attempt to give a complete understanding of the problem, the study gives the basic data on the tanneries sector as well as the environmental regulations in detail.
