Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

These Proceedings are the official record of the papers presented at the Sixth European Photovoltaic Conference in London in 1985. They cover all aspects of photovoltaic technology. The Conference brought together solar cell specialists from all over the world and those involved in the wider spheres of system technology, applications, marketing and procurement. The aim of the organisers to preserve a balance between the interests of these two groups and promote the interchange of information and ideas was achieved. Some 60 papers were presented orally in sessions which everyone could attend and 146 papers of a more specialised nature were presented and discussed on an individual basis in poster sessions. These Proceedings provide an excellent overall view of the present state of the art and the market. The growing industry is not without its problems and some of these were highlighted in two Panel Discussions during the Conference. Two announcements having an important bearing on the future of photovoltaics in Europe were made on the first day of the meeting. One concerned the formation of a European Photovoltaics Industries Association, to coordinate commercial developments and give the industry a united voice. The other was news of the launch of the Commission of the European Communities' third 4-year Non-nuclear Energy R&D Programme, which includes provision for the support of research and development in the fields of amorphous silicon and other thin film photovoltaic devices.
