Abstract

On the basis of modern technological requirements which demand the creation of data banks for the properties of engineering materials, a summary of the products and services which are the goals of these developments is presented. This summary also shows the main problems which handicap the integration of such banks towards a European materials information system. In the context of these problems, the objectives and perspectives of the development project of the High Temperature Materials Data Bank of the JRC are presented. This communication further deals with the design and realisation of the data bank, the structure of the data, the structure of the bank, the elements of the system, the operational characteristics and procedures, the query system, the data content, and the hierarchical and evaluation aspects of the data. The utilisation of the bank is illustrated by an example of an interactive data search.
