Abstract

The global energy balance of current driven collisional resistive modes is related to a quadratic form derived from their dispersion equation in the ballooning representation. A general expression as a function of the mode frequency is found for the partition of the released magnetic energy into dissipation, electron compression along field lines and ion fluid motion. The limiting forms of this expression are explicitly discussed for modes that are almost purely growing and for modes that satisfy the tearing ordering.
