INVESTIGATION OF DENSITY FLUCTUATIONS ON THE TOKAMAK TCA USING THE PHASE CONTRAST METHOD
An imaging diagnostic based on the phase contrast method invented in 1935 by Zernike and using an 8 W CW CO-2 laser beam expanded to fill a 23 x 4 cm wide aperture has recently been installed on TCA to study fluctuations caused by RF heating as well as plasma turbulence. It is suitable for the study of fluctuations in the wavelength range between 0.2 and 20 cm and allows the detection of phase shifts lower than 10**-5 rad for a 1 MHz bandwidth.
