Abstract

A quadratic form is derived from the dispersion equation of current driven, collisional resistive modes. This form is presented in terms of the ballooning representation and is shown to be related to the global energy balance. The partition of the released magnetic energy between dissipation, electron compression along field lines and ion fluid motion is discussed.
