STATISTICAL AND MATHEMATICAL METHODS IN POPULATION DYNAMICS AND PEST CONTROL - PROCEEDINGS OF EXPERT MEETING HELD IN PARMA ON OCTOBER 26-28, 1983.
This publication contains the texts of the lectures given during the EC Experts' Group Meeting held at Parma, 26-28 October 1983. The meeting was taking place in the context of a programme of research activity on plant protection carried out in the 10 member countries of the CEC by the General Directorate of Agriculture which deals with integrated and biological control against phytophagous pests of crops. The main aim of this meeting was to stimulate collaboration between pest control experts and mathematicians. Articulated in four seasons, the meeting has permitted to elucidate and to debate: modelling ranges within a large domain of activities (statistical, conceptual and simulation models); population sampling tackling, the most significant current problems in pest sampling (practical sampling tasks and population distribution models); pest control problems, focusing on some major difficulties of mathematical control techniques when applied to practical use in pest control; aspects of the global nature of pest management systems, emphasizing new lines of study, e.g. expert systems for decision making and simulation.
