SOCIAL EUROPE - SUPPLEMENT ON NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND SOCIAL CHANGE
This issue is the first in an intended line of dossiers of information, views and studies on social implications of the introduction of new technologies and technological change, to be published in the "New Technologies and Social Change" Supplement. It is in two parts. The first provides insight into community action and general information in papers on : - the European Social Fund - New Information Technologies and Social Consensus - New Technologies: Effects on Health and Safety at Work - The Activities of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions - ESPRIT: for Europe's Survival in Information Technologies. The second part describes the activities in the individual member states; they cover an impressive range of applications, from government policies (promotion of R & D, labour law, working conditions, health and safety, educational policies, vocational training, civil liberties, awareness activities), social groups (trade unions, employer organizations, collective agreements, political parties, labour disputes), to research (social implications, alternative applications) and experiences in specific sectors (banking, insurance, finance, retailing, telecommunications, manufacturing). It covers the period June 1982 to June 1983.
