ENERGY AND DEVELOPMENT. WHAT CHALLENGES? WHICH METHODS?
This book is the result of a joint project of 3 years" standing. It gives a summary account and is intended for the general public; publications on "Research Program and Results" and on documents concerning the specific work of each of the participating entries will be published later. After describing the "developing countries and their energy systems", "directions taken by the research programme" (including: "models and model building techniques", "program content and the 3 principal research lines", "using the methods and tools elaborated"), the book provides chapters on "data collection and processing" ("choice of data", "basic and integral energy balance sheets", "energy diagnosis"), on "case studies" and on "analysis and projection methods for energy requirements and provisions" ("main methodological lines", "reference framework of energy requirements", "projections of energy requirements and provision"). The research was carried out in a network of institutes in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, the ideas expressed are in independence from the EC or any other authority. From the beginning, harmonization between the points of view of the participants concerning basic questions was aimed at. The project concentrated on analysis forecasting, decision making tools specially adapted to developing countries" development objectives.
