X-RAY CRYSTAL STRUCTURE ANALYSIS OF BARIUM-TETRAKIS-OXALATO-URANIUM-(IV)-OCTAHYDRATE - BA-2U(C-2O-4)-4 X 8 H-20.
Ba-2U(C-2O-4)-4.8H-2O crystallizes in space group C2/c with cell dimensions a = 10.388(2), b = 20.703(3), c = 9.261(1)ANGSTROEM, beta = 123.55(1) degrees and z = 4. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined, on 1824 (I > 3 sigma(I)) unique reflections, with full matrix least squares to R = 0.029(R-w = 0.046). The uranium atom is nine coordinated to four oxalate groups acting as bidentate ligands as to one water molecule. The coordination geometry about the uranium is on the pathway between the T.C.T.P. and the C.S.A.P.. The crystal stacking is assumed by a remarkable network of Ba-O interactions and O-O hydrogen bonds.
