ADAPTING EEC CATTLE BREEDING PROGRAMMES TO MARKET REALITIES. PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR HELD IN BRUSSELS ON JUNE 4-5, 1985.
This publication contains the proceedings of an EC seminar on "Breeding strategies to optimize beef and milk production from EEC dairy and dual purpose cattle populations". Main points are (i) definition of breeding goals, (ii) determination of traits used for merit functions, (iii) desired genetic improvement for different traits, (iv) breeding schemes. There is no longer a need to maximize milk production and attention must be paid to improving efficiency. The research was undertaken in the framework of the Commission programme to coordinate agricultural research.
