THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY'S RESEARCH POLICY
This brochure provides a survey of the European Community's Research Policy; it is intended for the general public. The development of the EC's research policy, European and international cooperation on research and financing are described, the types of project for joint scientific or technical action indicated (e.g. very large-scale projects, projects bringing together complementary research activities in the individual member states, projects promoting European cohesion in science and technology, including standardization). The eight principal objectives of European Community cooperation on research are described; these are: agricultural "industrial competitiveness, management of raw materials", of energy resources; development aid; living and working conditions; effectiveness of the EC's scientific and technical potential; flow of scientific information (Euronet-Diane). Further chapters inform on: how the EC implements its research policy (Joint Research Centre, Joint European Torus, research under contract, shared cost projects, COST, coordination of research, evaluation); specific examples of EC research projects (e.g. neutron radiography, European Solar Test Installation,); lastly an attempt at assessment is given.
