GENETIC ENGINEERING OF PLANTS AND MICROORGANISMS IMPORTANT FOR AGRICULTURE. PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR HELD IN COPENHAGEN ON OCTOBER, 8-10, 1984.
This volume contains the proceedings of a seminar held in the framework of the Biomolecular Engineering Programme of the CEC. The programme was launched in 1982; the first meeting of contractors 1983 (Louvain-la-Neuve) led to the setting-up of four coherent working groups; this seminar, held 9/10 October 1984 at Copenhagen, was the first independent meeting of the fourth working group on "the improvement of agricultural species by genetic engineering". These proceedings bring together the submissions of the invited speakers, as well as 72 poster contributions, and a summary of the discussions held in parallel in the separate workshops, which provide a faithful image of the research carried out within this particular working group. A more detailed presentation of the research results obtained by the contractors, all working groups included, will appear in the 1984 Annual Report of the Biomolecular Engineering Programme. Among the topics, for which progress was especially noted, were: nitrogen fixing symbiosis; other symbioses in the soil; agrobacterium as a system for gene transfer to plants, and other transformation systems.
