Abstract

The JET ICRF system design has been optimized for operation in Deuterium or Deuterium - Tritium plasma. The first ICRF tests may have to be performed in neutron free plasmas (ie. hydrogen) and the present paper reviews the possible modes of operation in such conditions. Inside the band width of the generator (25-55 MHz) power absorption close to 50% (with centrally peaked profiles) is expected in the basic performances JET plasma (T(O) = 2 keV n-e (O) = 310**19 m**-3) for the following three scenarios: (i) 3-He minority over a wide range of magnetic fields (ii) D minority with n-D/n-H approximately equal to 3% if B greater or equal 3T (iii) 2 f-CH in a pure H plasma if B <= 2T
