SAFETY OF THERMAL WATER REACTORS. PROCEEDINGS A SEMINAR ON THE RESULTS OF THE EC RESEARCH PROGRAMME, HELD IN BRUSSELS ON OCTOBER 1-3, 1984.
This volume contains the proceedings of a seminar on the results of the EC's Indirect Action Research Programme on Safety of Thermal Water Reactors held at Brussels, 1-3 October 1984. The seminar reports on results obtained in 33 research projects executed in different national laboratories of the EC during the last 5 years. The topics covered belong mainly within 3 research areas: Loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and functioning and performance of the emergency core cooling system (ECCS). Fundamental work on thermal hydraulics and heat transfer during refill and reflood of an uncovered core after the LOCA. Protection of nuclear power plants against external gas cloud explosions. Study of the impact on plant structure and systems of external explosions of dense combustible gas clouds due to accidental releases of hydrocarbons in the vicinity of the plant. Release and distribution of radioactive fission products in the atmosphere following a reactor accident. Study of advection and diffusion in the atmosphere and of possible ground deposition of active fission products released from a damaged reactor core during an accident. The seminar was organized in 3 groups of parallel technical sessions, and introduced and concluded by plenary sessions. A panel discussion completed the meeting.
