Abstract

The performances required from high power klystron amplifiers for plasma heating applications are, in some regards, at the limits of the present state-of-the-art, which implies a need for new development efforts. At Thomson-CSF, building upon long years of experience with the technology of high power tubes, such a development program has now been undertaken. This program is aimed at evaluating the problems that will be posed in designing this new class of klystrons and identifying the most appropriate solutions.
