Abstract

The gas filling pressure used in TOKAMAK being in the range of few 10**-4 torr, the results presented in IV-2 are encouraging with regard to RF transmission capability in grill launchers. No strong intrinsic limit of HF power transmission has been found: gas filling and high magnetic fields do not seem to drastically damage the RF power densities useful for lower Hybrid Heating Studies. Argon glow discharge conditioning proves to be a remarkable tool for high RF power density handling within TOKAMAK surroundings. This procedure allows a good treatment of surface effects which limit 2-RF power transmission (e.g. multipactor). Power densities of up to 3.4 kW/cm**2 have been currently reached on all of PETULA's grill launchers. Such conditioning methods must be improved in order to be applied on Tore Supra L.H. wave couplers.
